Local Realism and Superposition

The winners of the physics nobel prize of 2022 obtained the award through experimenting and somehow reaching to a seemingly bizarre conclusion that “The universe isn’t locally real.”

Real- but not local. Local- but not real. What’s real and what’s local? What’s not real, and what does it mean for something to not be local?

The word “Local”- when used in this case- has the meaning that all and any forms of interactions will occur within the direct temporal and spatial neighborhoods. The former are considered as intuitive to us, though the same can not be applied for the latter;  While people are accustomed to perceiving and thus manipulating things at a distance, This all just boils down to a big illusion- we are only able to “Perceive” Protons that reach our optics. Thus, one can conclude that the universe is considered to be local as we know not a single action at a distance. Many other phenomena, such as quantum entanglement, are within the realms of locality as both particles must be in a direct neighborhood for the phenomenon to occur.

Meanwhile, the usage of the word “Real” here implies that all and any quantum objects have possessed specific properties since the moment they were created- similar to how we are accustomed to perceiving the world. As a simple example, whether or not something is hard or soft in touch can be at the very moment when they were created. If they were non-real, however,  whether they are hard or soft may only be determined when you go out and touch them- long after their creation. In other words, to say whether the universe is real or not is to answer if we perceive our quantum world behavior in a probabilistic way- because it is inherently probabilistic; Implying that it's “not real” or tht its simply because we lack some form of knowledge regarding said object- Implying that the universe, is, in fact, real.
