Cyanide coffee: case of Jessica Wongso-The Documentary

Most of us are probably aware of this hair-raising case-especially us living in Indonesia. In 2016, a newly wed woman called Wayan Mirna Salihin was murdered almost instantly after taking a sip of her Vietnamese coffee, in Olivier cafe, Jakarta, Indonesia. The news of this spread like a wildfire throughout Indonesia, even reaching international ears. The people grieved and sympathized deeply with Mirna’s family. Later, Mirna’s best friend who was with her when she drank the coffee became the main suspect- and eventually was convicted with 20 years in prison for planned murder.
Now, almost 7 years after the case, Netflix released a documentary on this case that brought a whole new perspective on this case. The documentary titled ‘Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee and Jessica Wongso’, shows information and footage never seen before in the public eye previously. This documentary stirred the interest of the public and the case was brought up all over again. From being hated on and shunned by the public, Jesicca gained a lot of supporters claiming she’s innocent and demanding that she be released.
From this documentary new theories were forming left and right rapidly; and the public isn’t shy to express their dissatisfaction to the police and court that proclaimed Jessica guilty. Some even claimed the real perpetuator bribed Indonesia’s police force and court into framing Jessica. Now, what exactly did Jessica do to get suspected 7 years ago? CCTV footage shows Jessica arriving 3 hours earlier at the girls meetup place and ordering each of them their very own drink-Vietnamese coffee for Mirna. Jessica allegedly purposely chose a place where CCTV could only show so much, and allegedly poured a fatal amount of cyanide inside Mirna’s coffee-resulting in the death of her own best friend.
Because of this documentary, the public begin to suspect someone they never dreamed might be the perpetuator-Mirna’s very own father. What do you think? Some people called it crazy, but some remained true to their accusations.
P.S. Please do your own research on this case before expressing your opinions publicly. This article’s sole purpose is only to inform. The documentary can be found on Netflix.
